Never Think You Are Not Good Enough…

Whenever I’m silly enough to doubt my ability with anything,

I always take a quick glance at people in the public eye earning millions for their ‘skills’ and back I bounce. Not in an arrogant ‘I’m so much better’ way, but simply in a ‘if they can do it so can I’ way.

Here’s an example:

A music producer friend of mine had the tuning tool that all producers use these days to whack up a note that was either slightly sharp or flat whilst mixing or producing in the studio. It’s called Auto-Tune.

For good singers it was a tool used merely to sustain a great ‘take’ or performance where everything else was great bar a few dodgy notes or unexpected voice cracks.

So for those it was a quick job – half hour, if that.

My friend once worked on an international star from one of the biggest bands of the decade. He had the unfortunate task of auto-tuning their vocal. When I popped into the studio he gave me a weary look.
I’ve been here for weeks!’ He wailed.
He told me he literally had to auto tune not just words but right down to syllables. The poor guy literally had to re-tune every breath from this multi-million selling ‘singer.’

What this reminds us is that no matter how crappy we feel our contribution to the world might be, there are people who are not quite as bothered about imposing mediocre on the world making a perfectly good living! In other words, of course we should do our best, but remember, there is an audience for everyone. Our job is to find them.

What Say You?!

Are you your worse critic and full of self doubt with any project you take on?

Shocking Video

the insanity of humanity lg

The video depicts what appears to be a re-occurring theme of the typical treatment of African maids who are forced to work in the Gulf States.

WARNING! NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED.

The video can be seen here.

When / if you view it, let me know what it makes you think or feel, because whilst it’s shocking I’m not surprised by it…which is not a good thing.

And just so you know, the dialogue is something along the lines of

‘Help me! Help me!’

‘Get up you crazy woman.’

What Say You?

Where do we file this one?

Cute Dog Helps Young Boy Find His Swagger!

This is Carter Blanchard from Arkansas USA. He developed vitiligo, a skin condition that gradually makes the skin lose pigment. He is 8 years old and his skin started changing whilst at school. The young ‘in was feeling very bad about himself and had told his mother that he hated his face and hated the way he looked.

That was until he met…Rowdy!

Rowdy was rocking the same look! He developed vitiligo the same year as Carter and the two met up and became the best of buds. Rowdy is a thirteen year old pure black labrador who showed Carter that 1. he was no longer isolated and 2. the vitiligo thing… it ain’t no big deal!

Carter’s mother says that no one else could have got this message through to her son to make him feel better about himself but Rowdy. 🙂

Rowdy for president!

Blogging: What To Do When It Feels Like Nothing Is Happening!

The March

the-march

Like something from a century ago or indeed something from quite a few current cultures, women (and men) took to the streets on Saturday 21st January in opposition to the denigration of women and a divisive US president prone to eyebrow-raising misogyny amongst other things.

The March appears to represent a fluent meaning depending on who you talk to. To some it would have elicited a rather large yawn, probably accompanied by the usual, dismissive ‘stupid feminists, what do they think they’re going to achieve?’ to ‘Trump is president – get over it!’ suggesting it’s all about election disappointment – nothing more, nothing less. To the idea that this marks a beginning of consistent opposition to the counter productive backwards steps the new American administration is seen by many to be taking.

It would be difficult to argue against that point. We have a president that does not seem to be very presidential …a tack which clearly has it’s supporters. To recap:

  • He has spoken about grabbing women ‘by the pussy.’
  • He has spoken to a woman on prime time television about ‘blood coming out of her wherever…’
  • He has recalled with pride how he would burst into the changing rooms of the women taking part in his pageants whilst they were undressing, knowing that they would not dare demand he GTFO.
  • He is embroiled in a underage sex case.
  • He has grandly marked women’s physical appearance out of 10 with zero sense of irony or self awareness.
  • He has suggested that women who are not deemed attractive by him are lying when they say they were assaulted by him, not necessarily because he didn’t do it, but because of course only attractive women get sexually assaulted.
  • He tends to forget his wife whilst embracing his new role, barging ahead of her and leaving those with manners to guide her unnecessarily but with old fashioned gentlemanly grace into position. It’s all new for her too after all.

Those are just a few things we know about.

It’s plenty.

The numbers of women (people) who marched against Donald Trump rather embarrassingly dwarfed the people who turned up for his inauguration.

So?

What does it all mean for women and for the future?

Could we really brush aside Trumps comments as his most rabid fans have done as locker room banter?
Let’s face it. He is not lying. This kind of language, behaviour and sense of entitlement goes on in male environments and occasionally spills unchecked from the mouths of even the nicest of men, possibly in the same way sexist remarks spill from the mouths of women also when they are out with the girls. The thing is…they are not the President of the United States.

The Boss Man.

When the boss picks on someone, at work, at school, even at home, it is usually a signal by the weak-minded that it is okay to do the same. See the Stanford prison experiment. Lemmings develop a gang mentality that makes them behave in ways they would not behave on their own. It is this that makes Trumps behaviour alarming for the potential victims of his throwaway, irresponsible nonsense. The rise in attacks (on either side of the argument) bear this out whilst making the protest responses to it gratifying.

The protests show little sign of ending or focussing solely on his lack of respect for women…

So, School Me…

The March…What did it mean to YOU personally?…If anything.

Anyone Who Had A Heart…

A mother orangutan with her little baby clinging to her approached a village in Borneo. She was looking for food her her baby as her home had been encroached on first by the villagers and then stripped bare by palm oil companies.

3

A group of villagers spotted her, began throwing rocks at her and beating her with sticks.

A male orang nearby saw what was happening and tried to defend the already weakened and possibly already injured mother. He was chased away.

The villagers continued to beat the mother until she fainted. Then they tied her with ropes and tried to pull her daughter away. She rallied for a moment and tried to rescue her baby so the villagers dragged her to a pool of water and submerged her head until she passed out.

Then they threw her into a cage.

They tossed the baby in with her.

She was barely alive at this point, struggling under the beating she had been given and water in her lungs.

2

Mom mustered enough strength to put her arms around her frightened baby and hug her close. Her baby tried in vain to bite through the ropes that were binding her.

Fortunately an IAR‘s veterinarian stumbled on the scene and managed to rescue the mother and the child from the barbarity.

Unfortunately the beating, stoning and the drowning proved too much for the mother and despite the rescue, she died.

Just another day…

1

As far as orangutans are concerned it is just one of the ways that man is killing them off to make way for their palm oil and other products. An orang is likely to be either shot on sight or burnt from the wildfires caused by deforestation, or the mother is killed to steal her child so that people can take selfies with it.

Take your pick.

This little girl however was taken into care and spent 4 years learning how to be an orangutan before being released back into the wild.lahaa-wpftr3
