Hi Folks, One Of The Fam Needs Help!

The Mexican earthquake has seen approximately 230 die and a rescue operation mounted to extricate children trapped in the rubble of their schools. 500 army members and 200 police officers are working to free people they can see with thermal scanners still trapped under collapsed buildings. It is said to be Mexico’s worst earthquake in 30 years.

Some of you might have seen or chatted to Equinoxio, (Brian) on The Editor’s Journal, a deeply cool guy that I enjoy much silly and equally deep banter with on the regular. He lives in Mexico. He is right smack in the middle of it all with buildings collapsed nearby. Fortunately he appears to be fine along with his family but is no doubt in a weird place owing to the shock of it all and everything is in ‘chaos’ as he describes it. There is still fear of aftershocks, gas leaks, more buildings on the brink of collapse…

He is currently babysitting his 15 month grandson Gonzalo so his rather wonderful daughter who is an MD can be out there at the coal face treating the sick.

If you are able to help:

He has given a link on his blog to send funds if you can here.

Thanks guys.

If you need a reason to just keep going….

This is by renowned artist Alex Ross. One was drawn when he was 6 and the other slightly older!

Progress needs time.

They’re both kinda cool huh?

WHAT SAY YOU?!

Are you struggling a bit with the old blogging?

Or are you struggling to keep another dream alive?

Firstly, KEEP GOING!.. But let me know below!

The style directory for your home...

Alex Ross

PARENTS! Would You Build This For Your Children!!!

I don’t ask this lightly! This home is pretty amazing …and I feel I have to prepare you for it…

Don’t be fooled by the pic below…that’s just part of of it. 😀 All I’m saying is that if you want your kids to say they love you AND ACTUALLY MEAN IT, you need to be calling these architects pronto!

Take a look here and come back and let me know what you think.

SCHOOL ME!

If money was no object, would you build this home for your kiddos?!

Hey Guys…Would You Loan Me $500?

cwt-edt

I mean… I hate to ask and all that…but I really need it for this thing that is really really important. I promise you I’ll give it back ‘cos look I’ve made out a plan of how I can pay you back by next month. I really, really, really need this, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and if I miss this it will NEVER come around again!

Have you heard the schpiel before? Indeed are you the one with the schpiel?

I’m going to tell you straight. I never loan or borrow money from friends or family. Period.

The quickest way to gain an enemy is to loan money to a friend or family member.

If I have it and want to give it, you can have it. If you have the manners to pay it back, however slowly or in whatever amounts (within reason) then you can come back and ask again any time you need help. If you are a pig and don’t even get back to me, just try asking me again.

But I will never chase that money because I would never give what I cannot afford to lose.

Them’s are my rules. I’m interested in yours?

I was once helping out someone who I was really impressed with. They’d spent quite a bit of time in prison and having come out had put together a show and tell highlighting the stark negatives of prison life which they had begun touring schools with.

They had invited me to go along and tell my story as (hopefully) a counter balance to their own and as I had done the school tour motivational speaking thing many times before I was happy to freely give my time.

The problem

Then very early in the relationship I got the knock on the front door…

‘Um …can I come in? Sorry to bother you…um…I don’t like to ask…’

Me in my head: ‘Oh here we go!’

The story was they needed to pay a bill – it was very urgent…blah blah… can’t carry on with the tour unless it’s paid… yadda.

I knew that they were being backed by people who were handling the monies and other aspects of the whole ‘prison tour’ concept, so I asked why they hadn’t gone to the backers as it was in their interest to keep them on the tour. To be honest I can’t remember the answer because I knew it was BS. My brain has an auto-filter for BS.

The Solution

But just in case their issue was genuine I told them that this is what I’ll do. The bill was £200? Fine I would help them with £80. They should then go and find the remaining £120 and hand it to me and I will ring the company and pay the whole of this bill via credit card then and there.

Strangely enough they never came back.

😯

As well intentioned as they might have been I could see from this and other things they had told me that they were not listening to their own motivational messages about falling back into old habits and avoiding prison.

Judge Judy

Having been accosted only recently for large loans (plural) that ‘Honestly I can pay you back end of the month’ for complete and asinine frippery my gears have been grinded…. (ground?) I’ve watched many an episode of Judge Judy where countless friendships are trashed in court because people who thought they were helping out friends in dire need were flippantly told later in litigation that their savings or hard earned cash handed over to help their friend was a actually a non reimbursable gift i.e a legal get-out not to pay them back.

You know how when they’re begging for help it’s a loan and their generous friend is the GREATEST person on earth, but when it comes time to pay the money back their kind friend suddenly becomes Satan to them?

It actually disgusts me to see it, because the lender, albeit a little dim, has helped out of the kindness of their hearts and 99% of the time could absolutely not afford to lose the money.

Never a borrower or a loaner be the saying goes.

SO WHAT SAY YOU?

I wanna hear your experiences and what you learned from loaning money or your car, or your phone, gadgets or other things, because many people either return things broken and disrespectfully try and pin the damage on the lender or lose the item then go into hiding.

Plus what have you told your little’ uns about loaning money and things…if anything?

Or are you the borrower? Do you see money given to you as a gift or do you prioritize paying it back?

Some Joy From all The Naziness!

Hello folks! You know I wouldn’t let you down in these WTF?! times.

Here are some great responses when those ‘fine people on both sides’ go out on a walkathon for a day. Enjoy.

  1. See what some folk did in response to a march held every year to celebrate the ‘dead loser’ (Arnold Schwarzeneggers words) Rudolf Hess.

2. See what some folks came up with for another march featuring 2 sets of clowns.

Originally featured on The Good Reverend then Neatorama

3. He he! Possibly my favourite….although the clown one is up there. This guy turned up with a sousaphone to play these fine people along in their march with suitable lumbering music for the slow witted.

What Say You?

Do you have a favourite?

Do you think these are better responses than fighting?

What are your views on Trump’s response to the Charlottesville rally and should the sousaphone man be hired to follow him around the world…or not?

Animals That look Like Celebrities!

Ron Perlman meets yet another doppelganger…no perm.

Mckayla Maroney and Red Rabbit do not approve.

‘Ner ner ner!’

Such beautiful hair. Julia Roberts style is nice too.

Eric Stonestreet.

Rafael Nadal and a capybara getting passionate about tennis.

Any favourites? Whack it in the comments below! 🙂

This Is Special…

So…this 12 year old girl just ‘helped’ deliver her baby bro – you know…as you do! There was no panicked emergency that necessitated it, just a decision that this was probably the 3rd and last child that mother Zadyn Dellapena would be having, so…why not?!

Her name is Jacee and the doc, Dr Walter Wolfe apparently asked if she wanted to deliver the baby, upon which she was fitted with scrubs and the rest is internet history.

As you will see, she was not just pootling around in the room at the time, as kids might do at a home birth, she was all up in the business end of the delivery and was the first to welcome the newborn sprog Cadyn.

Look at her face though! 🙂

Loving the matching expressions!

Quite amazing huh?!

Well, this is it… It IS amazing, but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Am I pro or con? I dunno!

Not sure how to articulate exactly what I have a problem with…not even sure I have a problem.

So I have to turn once more to you guys.

SCHOOL ME! – WHAT SAY YOU?!

It’s natural you fool! It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread and all 12 year olds should be doing this!

OR

Has that child got no homework she should be doing?!

9 Things

1. It’s not about how much you know, it’s who you know.
2. Don’t work hard. Work intelligently.
3. 70% of the stuff you are being taught at school will be meaningless.
4. Learn a timeless skill.
5. Trust yourself.
6. There are multiple entrances to anywhere.
7. Don’t follow.
8. There is no such thing as ‘the truth.’
9. Don’t listen to people. They talk a lot of shite.

SCHOOL ME!

What are yours?

What have the years taught you?

Sad News As A Woman Dies…

A woman named marinna rollins had charge of a handsome little pit bull named Huey whom she was looking after whilst her estranged husband was stationed in Korea. Huey had been adopted from an animal shelter in Cumberland County, North Carolina, so one can imagine that he had already experienced the arse end of humanity.

She and her boyfriend jerren heng took Huey to a wooded park, tied him to a tree and shot him multiple times whilst recording the event and laughing. heng can be heard asking to shoot the dog also. A friend of theirs posted the video on Facebook in the hopes that it would highlight their actions and lead to punishment.

I was very saddened to hear that the woman was found dead in her home on Sunday.

It was suicide and not payback.

When is the right time to move from WordPress.com?

HNTSO edit top image

The quick answer is either when you have a very loyal following or right at the beginning when it’s all nice and clean with few or no followers to lose.

Whether you are at that decision point or not the following post is worth reading so you know for future use whether to stay or go.

I have chatted with people who have left at the wrong time and the stories are always the same. ‘Boy it’s lonely out here!’ The move has usually also been complicated by having to transfer lots of previously accumulated posts. Then they find that the culture outside of WordPress.com is very different.

There really is little point in moving if you can do a better job of building your readers on WordPress.com than out there in the cold harsh internet all by your lonesome.  WordPress.com is at least based around a community which allows you access to people quite easily. (I’m sure most of you will know that WordPress.org is the paid version and people jump ship there mainly to have full ownership of their blog and domain name).

The other platforms like Blogger or Tmblr or even WordPress.org have a whole other vibe to them which may or may not suit you. I would not abandon WordPress.com until I have experimented with other platforms and I am sure that I could do better elsewhere. A lot of folk like to blame their tool for lack of visitors and wonder if moving to another platform would solve the issue. The truth is, the issue is not always the tool but often the user. If there is a problem with your marketing, SEO, or traffic it will follow you to wherever you go if you don’t deal with that specific problem head on.

Remember, plenty of people have succeeded on paid platforms and plenty of people have succeeded on free platforms.

There is a fairly big difference between a free blog platform like WordPress.com or Blogger and a paid one such a WordPress.org. Apart from the money (which if you are aiming to do big things is really negligible), being on WordPress.org is like paying a mortgage for a home you ostensibly own.

WordPress.com is like renting a room and has the same kind of limiting limitations from the landlord!

  • a) You can’t place ads of your choice.
    b) You can’t play with the overall coding or look of your site from what your template and their system allows.
    c) You can’t SEO your blog as freely and comprehensively as you can on WordPress.org.
    d) You can’t access full stats as freely and comprehensively as you can on WordPress.org.
    e) Plug-ins are extremely limited on the free platform with swathes of choice on the paid one.
    f) If you are ready to branch out and earn from marketing, brand sponsorship, affiliation or advertising opportunities certain platforms will not work with you if you have a WordPress.com account because of it’s limitations.

Plus there are some various other rules about what you can and can’t do which are not imposed on a paid platform.

Now if you are a newb this will not bother you one jot. But as you start to learn about the possibilities of blogging and your confidence and audience starts to grow you may start to rub up against those WordPress.com limitations and feel that you need to stretch those wings and own your own home. And as I said, if you are halfway in your journey with neither a particularly large audience or a particularly small one, but you have committed to quite a number of posts that are important to you, switching platforms has been known to be a little stressful technically to say the least.

The cleverest thing to do?

Keep both.

A lot of people who make a clean transition from WordPress.com to WordPress.org start to feel the cold reality – the harsh wind and the blowing tumbleweed of isolation. But actually, there is no reason that states that you have to make a sharp blogxit! <—topical!  🙂

I would suggest tapering things off and testing the waters before you make the big move. Think of it like leaving your parents home as a young adult, but they allow you to keep your bedroom as is …you know…just in case.

So what you do is keep writing for your WordPress.com base and invite your existing followers to visit a few posts on your new WordPress.org blog from time to time.

You can simply start your post on .com and then have them click to your .org to complete it. Often people just say ‘I’ve moved – here’s my new blog, click here’ which actually gives very little incentive for a passer by to ‘click here’. But if you wrote a post that was exciting, interesting, funny, moving or informative, who wouldn’t click through to read the end of it? Who doesn’t want to hear the end of a knock knock joke…even if it isn’t funny!

I would repeat this over a number of months, some posts for .com some for .org. If your audience follows you to your .org posts repeatedly then you know you have a loyal readership who are willing to follow you to your new home permanently. If they don’t, then you know you have much more work to do to build that loyal readership.
